Why did Gaha Saeed resign from the Commission?

First Gaha Saeed expressed his concerns regarding the draft report of the CoNI. This came as no surprise, as he would not want to lose face with his party members, who do not want anything on the report other than their coup claim. So, most probably, that is what he did. He tossed the coined in his favour.

If he really had a genuine concern about the draft he could have done many things. He could have raised them with the international observers who have been monitoring the process. These international observers are reknown experts in these sorts of work provided by the United Nations and the Commonwealth. So, the question remains why didnt he do that instead.

Despite all the many questions asked by MDP propaganda newspapers, it was really clear that even in compiling the socalled draft Gaha Saeed has been involved as much as anybody else in the Commission. Otherwise it wouldnt have been a best practice and it wouldnt have been approved or endorsed by the international observers.

The Co-chair Justice Selvam could have been biased as MDP loyalists claim but could the international observers be as well? Or the Commonwealth which has been arguing for MDP's cause of early election just changed their mind and took side with Dr Waheed? There need to be some logic - this is what that lacks here.

Again, Gaha Saeed resigned from the Commission last night when the report has been reportedly completed. After the report has been completed, of course, there is no need to remain there, especially when it is not in his party's favour. If he had remained, he would definitely be labelled a "bagee" today by people who adore him.

Given these facts, resigning from the post could have a sensible thing he did to save his self. However, this act may be both unethical and selfish for a rational person with an average intelligence. Why should he do so after writing up the whole thing?

There is no point of talking about the report of being biased or that CoNI members have taken bribes or received iPADs from Justice Selvam. Justice Selvam was, according to one source, one of the three choices presented to Nasheed and the Gov to decide on. They both agreed on him and endorsed the members without any reservation.

More silly are the excuses given by Gaha Saeed when he resigned from the Commission. He reportedly said he is resigning because 1. the report does not mention actions to be taken against the people who violated laws. 2. the report does not include recommendations to prevent such a unique coup in the future. It is quite obvious that these are the mandates of the concerned institutions of the state.

It is both disappointing and disgusting the selfish way Gaha Saeed has behaved throughout this process. He has discredited his colleagues, especially Justice Selvam, he has worked with for a few political points from his party members. This is no professional behaviour indeed.
